London - Day 2

We slept like logs on our first night in London. Would have probably slept in some, but we had to eat breakfast between 7:30 and 9:00 in our B&B. We had a nice breakfast of eggs, bacon (it's really salty ham, but they called it bacon), tomato, beans and toast. Yes, I ate beans and tomatoes and liked them. I highly recommend this B&B. The lady that has been working here the whole time we've been here is really nice.

After breakfast, we headed out walking around Belgravia and we really did walk over to Margaret Thatcher's house. We would have stopped in, but I was afraid she might not be up this early on a Sunday morning. Here's a picture of her house and guard.

Joan Collins and Liz Hurley live around there, too, somewhere, but we didn't have time to visit them.

We headed down to Victoria Station and then took the tube over to the Westminster station to see Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, etc...

We toured through the National Gallery, which has a lot of really neat and old art. We saw stuff by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Michealangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Monet, Raphael, Titian, Cezanne, Botticceli, and many more. In the middle of all that art, we had some fabulous snacks in the cafe and here is a picture of my favorite!

We walked to Picadilly Circus (that's a cool name)and stayed there just a little while. There were hundreds of police there because some demonstration was about to happen. I can't imagine how much was being spent to pay all those police.

Then, we walked through St. James Park and over to Buckingham Palace. That was pretty neat to see. Here's a picture of us in front of the palace. Saw the guards out there, but they weren't changing at the time we were there.

On our way back to the hotel a few minutes ago, we heard a man get hit by a car and turned to see it just after it happened. That was really awful. These British drivers are terrible whether they are driving in our country or their own!

Now, we are back at the B&B and getting ready to head out for dinner here in Belgravia and then will call it an early night since a car is picking us up at 4:15 AM to take us to the airport tomorrow, to catch our flight to Amsterdam.

P.S. Now back from dinner - ate at the Traveller's Tavern on Elizabeth St. Another good meal.
